In 1966 Bob Seger formed "Bob Seger and the Last Heard."  Seger grabbed a big hit in the Detroit area with "East Side Story."  That record sold about 50,000 copies locally.  That record led "Bob Seger and the Last Heard" to a contract with Cameo-Parkway Records.  Another early hit single by Seger and the Heard was "Heavy Music," released in 1967.  That song sold even more copies than "East Side Story."

The Gang

The Gang, from metro Detroit, was formed in the early 1960's.  They played at all the big time places of the day, including the Walled Lake Casino and the famed Grande Ballroom.  Three of the founding members, Don Henderson, Jim Butler, and Steve Farmer, put the band back together in 2005 and are currently performing live in a revised version of The Gang.  Speaking of Steve Farmer, he went on to enjoy national fame in The Amboy Dukes with Ted Nugent.  The original Gang bass guitar player, Greg Arama, also joined Steve and Ted in the Dukes.  Steve co-wrote "Journey to the Center of the Mind" with Ted, which went to #16 on the Billboard charts in 1968.

Look right to see color pictures of The Gang in 2007.  They're still alive and kickin' and rockin' the house 40 years later!!!  Original members Jim Butler (drums), Steve Farmer (rhythm guitar, harmonica, vocals), and Don Henderson (lead guitar, keyboards, vocals), were recently joined by Bob Beeckman (lead guitar, harmonica, vocals) and Lou Fischetti (bass guitar, vocals).  The new band brings years of musical experience to every stage they visit.  The Gang has enjoyed jammin' at many gigs around metro Detroit since the current lineup launched in February, 2006, including "Dancin' in the Streets" in Rochester, Michigan in August, 2006, and "The Woodward Dream Cruise" in September, 2007.  We'll keep you posted as more info about The Gang comes in.  In the meantime, take a few minutes to visit their official website.  Click where it says to, then enjoy looking thru a site dedicated to the band who was "...born and bred in the fire of rock and roll."

Above are two great photos of the late 60's Detroit rocknrollband "Wilson Mower Pursuit."  Does the drummer look familiar?  Come back to visit often, we'll post the answer soon.  Oh yeah, by the way, he's also pictured at right with his very first set of drums.  What a great move by Old Saint Nick, aka Santa Claus...to give this lad a set of tubs.  Little did Mr. C. know what kind of earth shattering drum chatter this boy would make throughout the years.  Anyone know who it is???

In the spirit of the season, who is this "little drummer boy?"
